In the tradition of cooperation, community spirit and thrift come the Nova Wish Lists. Check back often to learn how you can support Nova.  Maybe a “Craigs List” for teachers and staff to preview potential donations from families won’t be far behind.

The Seattle School District is in the midst of adopting a new Student Assignment Plan. The plan is “designed to be predictable, equitable, and easy to understand,” according to the district.  A number of community feedback meetings have been held and the district has scheduled Community Information Meetings Thursday, Nov. 5 and Saturday, Nov. 7. A School Board Public Hearing on the new attendance area boundaries is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 9. The school board is expected to vote on the new Student Assignment Plan at the Board meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 18. Details on the plan, including maps as well and meeting times and locations can be found on the district’s website.  http://www.seattleschools.org

Note: As an “option” school, Nova is not directly impacted by the new Student Assignment Plan. Option schools do not have reference areas, students are not assigned to them. Rather, students request/apply to attend option schools in place of their assigned schools. Current Nova students can expect to continue at the school. Prospective students will need to apply during the district’s open enrollmet period, March 2010. Options school enrollment is by lottery, with priority to siblings and those living with in a yet to be determied “geographic zone.” The district’s FAQ for option schools is available here.

The student led committee for the Nova Roller Skating Collective is doing a helmet drive so Nova and the SBOC can access roller skates provided by the school district. We need to collect 25 helmets before anyone can skate, and we need your help! Round up any and all extra skate/bike helmets, and bring ‘em on down to the collection bucket in the Nova student lounge! We are also collecting Elbow/Knee Pads and Wrist Guards!  This small contribution will go a long way to provide all of us access to this great resource.

Thanks for your help and support!

From Lisann Zentner, Student:

Hey Nova Parents, we need your help!

The Halloween Dance is coming up (October 30th, 8-11pm) and we need a few things!

~ Chaperones (you must have your students permission!)
~ Bake Sale Items – fun halloween themed treats (baked goods, candy, pop, ect.)
~ Decorations – have any old decorations you don’t put up anymore? Or want to donate a pumpkin?

Please email me @ mailto:thenovaprojectptsa@gmail.com with “Halloween Dance” in the subject line if you can donate your time or items!

Thank you Nova Parents, without your support dances wouldn’t be possible!
